THE BROOKS FILE 2.0
Apparently, there was a fair amount of discussion as to what to call this blog.
Blogs have to have some kind of name, I guess.
Colin McEnroe’s is called “To Wit,” but I don’t think I could stand the exertion of having to be witty every day.
Joe Amarante’s blog at the Register is called “Java Joe’s Journal Jive.” Lively title, and Joe’s a lively writer, but he stole all the alliteration for the “J” sound, even though I spell Gerry with a “G.”
The folks here had settled on “Just Gerry,” which was kind of cute in a “Will & Grace” sort of way. But then weather wonderboy Ryan Hanrahan walked by, and said, “What about The Brooks File?”
Hey, why not? I think the statute of limitations has expired, and I can use it again.
And come to think of it, how old was Ryan Hanrahan when the last Brooks File aired. Maybe eight?
The Brooks File was born in 1979 (before Ryan), and died at the hands of political correctness in 1993. It was of another time, another place, and another medium.
And now, it is resurrected in 2007 as a blog. One of the hundreds-of-thousands of blogs screaming to be heard in the vast cyber wilderness.
I hope with this edition of The Brooks File, we can establish a dialogue about anything that interests us, from politics to travel to sports to idle chat about anything.
OK, not about Anna Nicole Smith. Or Britney Spears. Or Paris Hilton. Or Lindsay Lohan.
Hey, it’s my blog.
So let the conversation begin. I’ll try to write as often as possible. I look forward to exchanging ideas with you on matters large and small.

Gerry - As a long time fan of your
11pm news, I was surprised when you
came back from vacation without your trademark mustache. I decided
that I had to ease into this new look so a little magic marker and
Gerry was back. As the weeks went
by and you moved around the screen
the artwork had to be moved. One
problem has developed - Do you have a flock of seagulls flying
around the studio, between the
newsdesk and the camera man? If
not does anyone know of a good
cleaner?
Now if we can get you on the radio we can have all Gerry, all the time. Never too much Gerry!!! Good luck with your new blog, I'm sure it will be interesting.
Hello Gerry..I guess when you stuck a mic in my face at the Weston Street Post Office way back (doesn't seem that long ago) in 1980, I officially became a Brook's File alumni. And I couldn't be more proud. We were young then...hey, we still are! Peter Naboicheck, from Farmington. I'm that guy with the Red Sox Forever blog. Oh, by the way, right now at 5:12 Saturday, that team we love is 29-12! The Braves were scalped. Two tough pitchng match-ups to come, however, but I'm sure if your Mom was watching, she was smiling!
Stay well...you're the best. Peter N.
And I did forget to add this. I remember you as a sports guy on a popular, at the time, AM station, paired with the best, our very own Joanne. That radio station is still popular, and still underpowered, but you both right now (LISA!!) are Hartford's own! And we, the hundreds of thousands of people who depend on you both are so lucky.
If I might change to my sports mode, go Red Sox. And hi to your Mom...I hope she was smiling on this gloomy gray but oh so happy Saturday....for all of us who have loved the Boston Red Sox, and have been lucky enough to see them win it ALL in our lifetime, thanks.. My Dad ALMOST made it, but he's smiling. Look up..he was always a fan of yours! And he always loved the way you told him what was going on in this confusing world of ours.
So thank you Gerry. I won't print the link to my blog..as long as YOU enjoy, and maybe Bob and Brad, Ryan and Mindy...everyone on the 30 crew. Joe D? He's a die-hard you-know what, but he and Kevin and the whole sports NBC30 crew, as well as Lisa and Keisha and Joanne, make us all so happy.
We're so lucky...Peter Naboicheck, from Farmington. And I'll sign this with a smile of gratitude....for everything you've done, and the so many years to come. THANK YOU!!!!
The Brooks File suits you just fine.I remember your segments from a long time ago.You made me chuckle.I've always watched you from one channel to the next.In my opinion, you are the best newscaster. You have a great personality and I love how you try and get the nbc30.com in just before the newscast is up.Keep up the great work.NBC30 is my one and only news station. Thanks for letting me write to you.
OK, this is cool. Thank you all for your comments.
I'll address the mustache issue sooner or later...
And for Red Sox fans, Peter N. has an excellent blog you can find at http://peteronall.blogspot.com/
WOW! Thank you Mr. Anchorperson!
Mr. Channel 30 Red Sox fan what are they going to do when the Red Sox are 24 games ahead at the All Star break with the distraught N.Y. Yankee fans? Will Bud Selig tell George not to fire Joe Torre and Brian Cashman. Will George be able to get some of that posting money back and will Theo Epstein interview for the "infamous New York Yankee G.M. job? It feels like 1978 all over again.
