A LITTLE OF THIS...

A little of that.
I think I blogged myself out yesterday, so a few quick hits and updates today.

I’m looking at the monitors in the newsroom and all the cable talking heads are still yapping about New Hampshire. (The sound is down.)
In his blog today, NBC’s Brian Williams (the man takes a good picture, doesn’t he?) looked back on how the media “experts” blew it.

“We in the media will beat ourselves (and deservedly so) for reaching conclusions before the voters have spoken. A further prediction? Give us a few weeks — we will promptly forget the lessons of this debacle in polling, predictions and primary politics. We will all live to screw up another day, though our performance in New Hampshire will be hard to beat.”

Really, they ought to wear pins that say “Remember New Hampshire.”

Now, a little housecleaning: I hit the “reject” button on a comment for the first time the other day. I hated to do it, but it was off-topic and critical of a co-worker. This isn’t the place to criticize my colleagues. Let ME do that. (Just kidding!) If you have a problem, you can email them or the station. I, on the other hand, am fair game.

And if my January 3rd post (“My New Toy”) intrigued you, you should know that the price of the U-Record has dropped dramatically since I bought mine (DAMMIT!!!).
You can get one for less than $50 at amazon.com and some other electronics websites. It really is a fabulous toy. I’ve digitized about 300 songs so far (incredibly anal, no?), and they sound great.

Now, what to do about the records…

It's cheaper now!? So I have no excuse for not buying it, then. Sell the old vinyls on Ebay - there's always somebody looking for "collectibles" or maybe donate them to a Senior Center or library. BTW, Brian's new Nightly New website is really sharp. Check it out if you haven't yet!

Good Lord, you're quick!
I'm ready to move on to the relatively few cassettes I have. I'll let you know how it works with them.
Donating is a good idea. I'll check it out.
And yes, the Mother Ship did a good job on the new website. I check out BW's blog when I can.

That Beatles 45RPM is a valuable one...the flip side should be, at least it was in the U.K., ASK ME WHY, from their first 1963 LP. Take care Gerry...Keish is great on the 5 and 5:30 and 11pm newcasts.

You are tempting me with the U-Record. I did go through my record collection over the weekend and came across an album by Cold Blood that features Lydia Pense as it's lead singer. Are you familiar with it? She has a bluesy, jazzy, rock style and was just awesome. I just Googled her and there were some interesting hits. But just seeing the album again brought back such good memories. Thanks for inspiring the walk through memory lane.

As far as donating record albums to libraries, you should check with your local library first. Most libraries will not take vinyl because they longer have a vinyl collection. Most libraries won't take cassettes either. But even if a library won't take the donation for their own collection, they might take it for the book sale that the Friends of the Library sponsor. Many collectors attend these sales. Friends' book sales bring in a lot of money to support programs that Towns/Cities don't allocate money for such as children's programing, author visits, movie series, staff development. But it's best to check with your library first. :)

LPF and Linda: Thank you both for the advice on moving the vinyl.
I tried a cassette today, and it sounded great.
And somehow, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood eluded me, but I googled her, and will follow up.
And Peter, I'm still searching my mother's basement for the VeeJay 45's I had.
