ISN'T THAT SPECIAL?

So I had my annual physical last week.
The prognosis: I’ll live.

But as a bonus, I got to make an appointment with another specialist. That brings to SIX the number of specialists I’ll see for one thing or another, not counting my regular doctor. (Who I really like, by the way, just in case he should see this.)

And the thing is, I’M HEALTHY! (Relatively speaking.)

It’s not that I mind seeing the specialists. I don’t mind being poked, prodded or probed. (More on the probe part ahead.)
It’s CALLING them I’m afraid of.
I just know that I’ll get caught in a maze of, “If you’re calling for Dr. Feelgood, press one. If you’re calling for Chinese takeout, press four.” And on and on.

I made three appointments today. Two of the calls actually went pretty well, and for some reason, the new specialist’s office already had my information.
Turns out I’d seen another one of the group’s specialists several years ago. Once you join the club, you’re always in, I guess.

Now, back to the probing. One of the appointments I made was for a colonoscopy.
If you’re of a certain age, and you haven’t had one…shame, shame.

I'm not gonna go all Katie Couric on you, but don’t make me nag!

That's so funny. I need to make 2 appointments and I've been putting them off for a time when I can spend 20 minutes on hold or being bounced from line to line. I've done the colonscopy thing. Hated it!!!!, but it's necessary. Be thankful you don't have to do the mammogram!!

P.S. Glad you're healthy and I loved the picture you included!

Linda, I know what you mean. I sat down with the phone numbers, my calendar, and enough time, and just steeled myself for telephone hell.
I don't have a problem with the colonoscopy and its aftermath (being high as a kite). It's the night before that's less than thrilling.

Thanks for the prompt on colonoscopies, Gerry. My dad is a 3-year colon cancer survivor, partly due to the fact that his cancer was identified in the early stages through a colonoscopy. He now has one every 6 months as a precaution against recurrence, so our family is well familiar with the ups and downs, so to speak.

BTW, at age 50, my husband already has 4 specialists, too. Be comforted that you're not alone in the doctor juggling game!

And we're all too familiar as well. The ending was not a happy one, but the lesson was learned.
Now, if my brother is reading this...
