BILL GONILLO
Connecticut broadcasting lost one of its friendliest and hardest working people over the weekend. You probably won't remember Bill Gonillo from NBC 30, but downstate, viewers have known him as the sports director of News 12 for the past 12 years.
According to the New Haven Register, Bill was found dead in his home in Woodbridge Sunday. He was just 44.
Bill did some work with us years ago, and my enduring image of him is his smile. It never seemed to leave his face. I think that's a nice way to remember a person.
And when we had our annual visit at the GHO/Travelers Championship, that same smile was always on his face.
There is no word on his cause of death, but the Register reports Bill was a diabetic, and suffered bouts of diabetic shock in the past.
Having seen the ravages of diabetes among my family and friends, I would urge everyone to get tested in their annual physical. And it's so important for diabetics to take good care of themselves.
Our sympathies to his family, friends, and our colleagues at News 12.
Bill was one of the good guys.
