ISN'T THAT SPECIAL

There was certainly nothing "special" about the special session of the legislature Wednesday in Hartford.

Governor Rell promises to veto the 2-year, 4.6-billion dollar package of bonding initiatives passed last week. Too expensive.
She called in lawmakers because she wanted a vote on funding for school construction projects only.

The Democrats didn't want to, and because they control two-thirds of the seats in the House and Senate, they didn't have to.
So they adjourned the not-so-special session after a few minutes.

What a waste of time. What a waste of the gas every lawmaker burned to drive to the Capitol. What a waste of electricity under that golden dome.

So each side called the other names, and then they all went home.
What a waste of hot air.

I always had the interest, but never had the patience to cover politics on a daily basis.

Years ago, I filled in for our political reporter for a week.
Nearly everyone I interviewed stopped in mid-sentence and asked, "What are YOU doing here?"

Now, I might ask them the same question with a different inflection.
"What are you DOING here?"
